Since the number of breeding animals is so limited, there is a high demand on us as
breeders. We have chosen to breed the Bombay from healthy lines with no involvement of
Head Defect. We do not cooperate with any breeders that have cats with suspected or known
genes of Head Defect.
In a litter, there can be born both defected kittens and those without any apparent
symptoms, all carrying the defected gene.
It is our strong opinion that all cats that have siblings or offspring with Head
Defect should be neutered. It is important for us to breed healthy kittens that have no
risk of getting the Head Defect gene, or later in life give birth to a defected kitten.
A lot of research is being made and among other things they hope to find a DNA-test to
be able to see which cats are carriers of Head Defect. This is where our purposeful
breeding comes in.
Quite a lot of research has been done, mostly focusing on developing a DNA-test for
Head Defect. By denying known carriers of the Head Defect gene entrance to our breeding,
we will be able to continue our work. Other breeders will have a lot of problems.
It is known that the extreme Contemporary type of Bombay more often has kittens carrying
the Head Defect mutation. Surely it happens that the Traditional Bombay has offspring in
second or third generations with Head Defect and it is caused by breeders with the very
bad taste of mixing Traditional Bombay with Contemporary Bombay. They blend out the
concentration, but it is still there….
If you want a Bombay for breeding you need to stop and think, because this Head defect
causes a big risk for the breed. A risk we do not ignore, we want to avoid it.
We ask
of you to think about the following question: Do you as a breeder want to plan ahead a
couple of generations or do you just want to produce today?
Following breeders has healthy kittens from time to time:
Cattery Bellevitazz
Cattery EbonyCatz
Cattery NeuHeidebergen
